The Power of Social Media Influence: The Great Debate

So of course, as a full-service advertising & marketing agency specializing in social media management, we can tell you the importance using social media to promote your business. Social media today has a bigger influence on the future and reputations of a business than billboards and commercials. Plus, unlike commercials and billboards, it can sometimes cost nothing.

A real-life example of the power of social media and its influence today can be seen through the great debate. The great debate being the Popeyes' chicken sandwich vs the Chick-fil- a chicken sandwich. The famous Popeyes' chicken sandwich was made its nationwide debut on August 12th, two weeks later the company announced that they were sold out.

How? Social media. According to Popeyes, they projected that after the release of the sandwich, inventory would last until the end of September. They thought wrong. Thanks to the great social media debate, the demand exceed supply.

Literally people were waiting in hour long lines for this sandwich just because of the “Great Social Media Debate”. People wanted to know which was better. Not only that, the competition was said to be the great untouched Chick-fil-a.

As I scrolled upon my own social media, I saw the flood of social media post and videos claiming how one was better or just a comparison. I personally saw mile long lines of cars wrapped around the chain's store, in wait of this infamous sandwich.

Crazy right? Well, along with the demand exceeding the supplies, someone even tried to sell this sandwich for $7000 on Ebay because of the daily sell out of this sandwich.

Unfortunately, for now the Famous Popeyes' Chicken Sandwich is now temporarily sold out for good. "We, along with our suppliers, are working tirelessly to bring the new sandwich back to guests as soon as possible," said Popeyes in a statement.

Personally, I believe that this is a classic McDonalds “McRib”, Public Relations move, but we will see what the future holds . On the bright side, thanks to social media, Popeyes earned between $20 to $23 million dollars on just this chicken sandwich.
