Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!

by Emily Neely

We only have one planet, so it’s very important we come together and take care of it. The U.S alone contributes much to waste, producing the most trash in the world. One person can produce 1,600 pounds of trash each year, meaning 5% of people generate 40% of Earth’s waste. Going green can seem like a difficult or daunting task, but there are several easy life changes you can do. If everyone practiced green methods, we could make a huge difference for the planet!

  • Bring your own reusable bag to the grocery store, instead of using a plastic bag. One grocery store can use over 60 million plastic bags a year!

  • A college student can use around 500 disposable cups a year, bring your own tumbler instead! It will prevent sweating, and keep your drink hot, or cold, longer!

  • Carpool, transportation causes damaging pollutants, and it will save you gas!

  • Try growing your own fruits or vegetables, as U.S. stores throw away roughly 30% of their food.
