What is SEO?
SEO stands for "search engine optimization". This is the process of optimizing your online content in order to generate organic, or non-paid, traffic. What makes SEO so amazing is that, if done right, your website or online content will get ranked in the top pages of search engines leading to increased traffic to your website.
How does it work?
What do you do when you want to find something online? You go to a search engine, and you type in some words describing the content that you are trying to find. These words are called "keywords", and if your SEO is done right and includes these keywords, search engines will show your content as a top result.
Why should you want your content ranked at the top of search engines?
SEO is unlike other marketing strategies (social media, email marketing, ads, etc.) in that it directly targets the people who are searching for products and services similar to yours. If you've used the right keywords, your content will appear at the top of search engines, leading to increased traffic because most people will click on top performing content.
SEO should be organic. If you get a user to your website, they should be able to find the reason they are there. Get your content to the right people and everything else will follow-- lead generation and increased revenue!
SEO is so much more than just search engines. You have to really understand people and how they search online. What words are they using? What content are they trying to find? What questions do they need answered? With so many websites nowadays and even more content, you need yours to stand out! Correctly optimizing your content is an absolute MUST, because you don't want to get lost in search results.
SEO is more than just adding a couple keywords to improve your search rankings. You have to pay attention to new trends, learn the new ways that search engine's algorithms are working, keep an eye on your audience's behavior, etc. It's even more than just driving traffic to your website. You need to get the right people there so you can generate leads and increase your revenues.
